Keep your Mac awake, exactly when you need it

One toggle. Your Mac stays on through downloads, presentations, video calls, or as long as you say.

Requires macOS 13 Ventura or later · Apple Silicon & Intel

Nothing is more frustrating than a Mac sleeping mid-download, mid-render, or during a presentation. Keep Awake gives you precise control — pick a duration, choose a mode, and set it to turn off automatically. Free users get Display Awake; Pro users unlock System Awake, Lid Closed, charging-only mode, and time scheduling.

Instant one-click activation

Toggle Keep Awake on or off right from the menu bar — no need to open System Settings.

⏱️

Duration control

Choose 15 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, or run indefinitely. Keep Awake turns off automatically when the timer ends.

☀️

Display Awake mode (free)

Keeps your screen on and prevents the display from sleeping — great for video calls and presentations.

💻

System Awake mode (Pro)

Keeps the entire system awake while allowing the display to sleep — perfect for long background tasks.

🖥️

Lid Closed mode (Pro)

Run your Mac with the lid closed and charger connected. Ideal for clamshell setups.

🕐

Schedule & Charging Only (Pro)

Set a daily active window (e.g. 9am–6pm, weekdays only) and optionally only run Keep Awake while charging.

How it works

  1. 1

Click the S icon in your menu bar to open Synapse.

  2. 2

Toggle the Keep Awake switch or click a duration pill (15m, 1h, 2h, ∞).

  3. 3

Expand 'Advanced Awake modes' to choose between Display, System, or Lid Closed.

  4. 4

Optionally enable Charging Only so it pauses automatically when you unplug.

  5. 5

Set a schedule if you want Keep Awake to activate and deactivate on a timetable.
